"Damn red heathens," he grunted, blinking against the sun.

Sate's stomach rumbled loudly and saliva formed in his mouth as the aroma of roasting meat teased his nostrils. He squinted at the sun, gauging its high position in the sky, and gave a grim laugh. No wonder he had this empty feeling in his gut; he hadn't eaten since last evening. He swept his gaze over the area, searching for the source of the tantalizing odor.
